Skills Clinics

Skill Clinics focus on just one or two skills and are beneficial for those who want extra practice time on certain skills. Here are the skill clinics we offer.

Parent participation is required so wear comfy clothing and be prepared to take off your shoes because you will be closely supervising your children during this open gym.

Here are the skill clinics we offer.

CARTWHEEL CLINIC: AGES 4-10

These cartwheel clinics will focus solely on developing and perfecting all forms of the cartwheel.  Gymnasts, non-gymnasts, boys, or girls of any level are invited to attend. This clinic is for beginners and for those struggling to master the cartwheel.

BAR SKILLS CLINIC – LEVEL 1-3: AGES 4+

Stations will be set up to learn pullovers, casts, back hip circles, and dismounts. Stations will also include strengthening stations to develop the proper muscles to complete these difficult skills.

The pullover is required to move from Level 1 to Level 2 while both the pullover and the back hip circle are required to move from Level 2 to Level 3.

KICKOVER & BACK WALKOVER CLINIC: AGES 5+

Stations will be set up to learn bridge kick overs and back walkovers.  This is an ideal setting for cheerleaders, dancers, or anyone interested in tumbling.  Beginners will work on bridges, kicks, and kickovers while advanced gymnasts will work on back walkovers on the floor and beam.

Pre-requisites Required: Students must be able to do a bridge with their head off of the ground before attending this clinic. Students must wear attire that is appropriate for tumbling.

The kickover is a skill that is required for gymnasts to move from level 2 to level 3. The backwalkover is required for gymnasts to move from level 3 to level 4.

BACK HANDSPRING & BACK TUCK CLINIC: AGES 6+

Stations will be set up to learn back handsprings, round-off back handsprings, and back tucks. This is an ideal setting for cheerleaders, dancers, or anyone interested in tumbling.  More advanced gymnasts will work on layouts, twisting, or BHS or back tucks on the beam.

Pre-requisites Required: Students must be able to do a bridge kick over (a level 3 skill) on the floor before attending this clinic. Students must wear attire that is appropriate for tumbling.

INTERMEDIATE BAR CLINIC – FOCUS ON KIPS: AGES 6+

Stations will be set up to learn kips on the bars. Stations will also include strengthening stations to develop the proper muscles to complete this extremely difficult skill.

Pre-requisites Required: Students must be in Pre-Team, Advanced, JV/Varsity, or Team to join this clinic. If you do not attend classes at Flex, please call to find out if you qualify to participate in this clinic.

HANDSTAND CLINIC: AGES 4+

The handstand is one of the fundamental skills in gymnastics that every gymnast must become proficient at to really excel in our sport. Handstands are performed on every single event for both women and men during competition. Stations will be set up to learn handstands.

Stations will include proper progressions, strengthening stations to develop the proper muscles and shaping stations to develop the very difficult hollow ribs, flat back position necessary to perform a great handstand.

Variations of the handstand are required for all gymnasts in all levels. This clinic will be beneficial to all ability levels, from level 1 to level 10.

This clinic is a slightly shorter clinic due to the strain that will be put on the gymnasts’ wrists during this clinic.
